If you’ve already tried the standard DNA techniques—networks, clusters, shared matches, color groups—and nothing is clicking, you’re not doing it wrong. Those methods simply don’t behave the same in endogamous families.

What you need isn’t more trial and error. You need a plan built specifically for this kind of DNA.

Join the waitlist for our Endogamy and DNA Course, and you’ll be first to know when class opens. Inside, we teach a simple, endogamy-aware, four-step plan: count your cousins, find your Best Mystery Matches, untangle overlapping relationships, and finally see which ancestral lines are showing up in your DNA.

“Before [I was] overwhelmed about using DNA in my research. Now it's within my grasp…. This course has been a huge help in beginning to understand how to work with endogamous DNA and the various testing companies. Thank you for providing this course, and for the comments and encouragement.”
- Sharon Goertzen, Endogamy and DNA Course participant

While you wait, here are things you can do to get ready:

1. Organize your DNA logins.

Write down the usernames and passwords for every autosomal DNA test you can access. Be sure to note which tests belong to which relatives. With endogamy, multiple testers are especially helpful, so having everything in one place will save you significant time later.

2. And speaking of multiple testers...identify one more cousin who can test.

Even one additional test, especially from a cousin on a different branch, can make a big difference in endogamous settings. Think of someone connected to a line you want more clarity on and consider inviting them to take a test (or share results, if they’ve already tested).

3. Build and expand your family tree.

Document all lines you can, even if you suspect overlap. Endogamy means ancestors often appear in several branches of your tree. The more clearly you document those branches, the more understandable your DNA match patterns become.

4. Join and engage in our Your DNA Guide Circle Community.

Our Your DNA Guide Circle community includes others navigating endogamy and pedigree collapse. Ask questions, compare experiences, and gather support while you wait.

You’ll be amazed by how ready—and how motivated—you feel when the next class opens.
